Neebing Birding Day

Join the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA), Municipality of Neebing, Blue Sky Community Healing Centre, Ontario Nature and the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for a morning of birds, birding and legend telling!

Fall migratory birds are now making their way through the region. We will be gathering at the NCC’s James Duncan Memorial Trail SOUTH TRAILHEAD off of Memory Road in Neebing. Participants will then get the opportunity to look for and observe migratory birds in the area, with expert guidance from Ontario Nature and LRCA staff. We are also extremely excited to welcome Cindy Crowe of Blue Sky Community Healing Centre who will speak to the historical and cultural significance birds to Indigenous peoples. This “Two-Eyed Seeing” approach intermingles Western scientific perspectives with Indigenous perspectives in an effort to provide a wholistic approach to observation and understanding of the natural world. Cindy is happy to provide interpretations of the Animal Spirit Guides.

Be sure to bring your binoculars and bird guides if you have them!

The LRCA is also encouraging participation in the self-guided, self-drive Sandhill Crane Festival, which is running from Monday, September 12 to Sunday, September 18. More information can be found here.
