2024 Total Solar Eclipse for Families

Thursday, April 4 – 2024 Total Solar Eclipse for Families at the LRCA Administrative Office; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Get ready with the LRCA! On Monday April 8^th between 1:59pm and 4:19pm, the moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth in the skies over Thunder Bay!  At its 3:10pm maximum, it will block 70.11% of the sun.  Are you ready for this once-in-a-childhood event?

Join the LRCA for an astronomically fun evening preparing for this awe-inspiring event:

• bring your eclipse questions for a local member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
• learn how to safely view the eclipse, bring a cereal box to make a DIY Solar Eclipse Viewer with us,  and receive one pair of Celestron ISO 12312-2 solar eclipse glasses to bring home!
• take home one of our Eclipse Tracker sheets to fill out during the eclipse
• make a solar sensitive bead creature or bracelet to bring to the eclipse – will it change colour?
• make some 2024 Eclipse Art that you can keep to show off at Thunder Bay’s next total solar eclipse in 2079!
