Tree Seedlings
WHY PLANT TREES?
Reforestation improves our environment by providing wildlife habitat, preventing erosion, conserving energy and improving air quality. In addition, when you plant trees, you improve aesthetics and the value of your property. Since inception of the Tree Seedling Program in 2009, there has been more than 159,000 tree seedlings planted in the Lakehead Watershed.
ABOUT THE SEEDLINGS
Seedling stock is locally grown by Hill’s Greenhouses Ltd. in Murillo, Ontario. Seeds collected from this region ensure that the trees are adapted to local conditions. One year old seedlings will range in size from 4-8 inches (10-20 centimetres) and two year old seedlings will range in size from 8-16 inches (20-40 centimetres) depending on the species. One year old trees are container stock and two year old seedlings have been hand transplanted.
- 1-year-old bundles contain 25 seedlings

Orders (species and quantity) are subject to nursery availability. Orders close May 8, 2024 (or earlier depending on stock availability). Tree seedlings are subject to availability and allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tree seedlings are not returnable and survival is not guaranteed after pick-up. Seedlings not picked-up on the scheduled date become the property of the LRCA. Customer must be a private landowner, not a business. Private landowners agree not to commercially re-sell the trees (i.e. commercial nurseries or landscaping companies). All orders are subject to approval by LRCA Staff and must contribute to the goals of the Authority. Minimum order is ONE Bundle and orders must be made in increments of full bundles.
